Welcome to the 9th Connemara Mussel Festival. Originally established to promote the excellence of the mussels of Killary harbour, this festival has grown to become a celebration of local people, food, culture and heritage, and is recognised as the premier food event for Connemara, attracting visitors from near and far.

Connemara Mussel Festival 2014 offers a feast for the senses for locals and visitors. TASTE beautifully cooked local produce; SEE unparalleled views of the magnificent Connemara land and seascape; HEAR sounds of music, dancing, talks and theatre; FEEL the atmosphere and most of all ENJOY the experience. This year’s festival, one of the first on the Wild Atlantic Way, is a showcase of the very best Connemara has to offer and you are guaranteed to find plenty to occupy your senses over the weekend. So… kick back, unwind and immerse yourself in the hospitality and splendour of Tullycross and the Renvyle Peninsula.

WHAT’S NEW THIS YEAR !

Over the weekend, some of the finest chefs in the country showcase their culinary skills. Along with renowned food writers John and Sally McKenna, this year’s festival includes Keith Carden from O’Grady’s on the Pier and a Food Education programme with GMIT led by Cait Noone (Head of School of the College of Arts and Tourism) and Jacinta Dalton, who is a Food Ambassador for Wild Atlantic Way.

On Sunday don’t miss the parade of Les Fins Gousiers d’Anjou accompanied by our local award winning Curley School of Irish Dancing. In Christ the King Church, Dr Nicola Gordon Bowe will shed new light on the stained glass windows designed by Harry Clarke, while Curlew Theatre Company will bring alive the infamous muses of W.B. Yeats! For children, there’s a special Saturday schedule of cooking, theatre story-telling and games. A bigger and better country market of artisan food and craft producers, including Made in Galway members, is open all weekend in the local village hall (Marian Hall).

The Festival Marquee at Paddy Coynes Pub will be the venue for all cooking demonstrations, with the Festival Office and Theatre just to the front of that. Keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter for updates: facebook.com/connemaramusselfestival and twitter.com/connemaramussel.
