Mussels are highly versatile and adaptable, and their use in Irish cuisine goes back many centuries. The recipes collected in this book - ranging from traditional to contemporary - have been contributed by Máirín Ui Chomáin, as well as from her friends and colleagues, and renowned and emerging chefs from across the Isle.
Gaeltacht native, Máirín Ui Chomáin, has been a resident judge at the Connemara Mussel Festival since it's inception. She is a former chair of the Irish Food Writers' Guild and is a member of the Slow Food Movement. Her previous book, Irish Oyster Cuisine, won the coveted World Gourmand Cookbook Award in 2004, and was named Foodbook of the Year, 2005 by Food & Wine magazine.
Máirín is also a frequent bi-lingual presenter on both radio and television, where she has been featured on Cuisine le Máirín and Encore Cuisine le Máirín. She is a prolific and imaginative writer and chef, as evidenced by her many books and awards, including a 1993 Bisto award for Tamaill Sa Chistin, her illustrated cookbook for children.
